Hey, been getting into Johnny Bush recently, and it seems there's a lot of great steel on his material.
So, what would recommend checking out, for the steel especially? Particular songs, albums.....and who plays steel on it?
Thanks! |

'sound of a heartache' is about as good as pedal steel gets. |

Be sure to listen to his version of "Farewell Party". The steel turnaround in that recording is the absolute BEST, performed by the great steel player, Jimmy Day. EXCELLENI.

The early Stop records are essential!
The more modern Lost Highway Saloon is packed full of great steel!
Hell all the Johnny Bush records! |

There are many. Johnny once said his music was the steel guitar. THE SOUND of A HEARTACHE is a great one. It was Jimmy Day on 10 of them and Buddy Emmons on 2. TEXAS LEGEND vol 1 and JOHNNY BUSH GREATEST HITS 1968-1972 are 2 more great ones.
Yes, it was Dickey on I`LL BE THERE as well as many other of Johnny`s recordings.

I remember riding in my Aunt’s new 1968 Ford LTD at 10 years old listening to the 8 track of the “Undo The Right” album on STOP records. Produced by Pete Drake with Jimmy Day on steel. Got to be one of the best and probably was his first Nashville records.

Also the “Whiskey River” and “Here Comes The World Again” RCA LP’s with Weldon on both. Probably 1974’ish.
I guess I have always been an old soul and was honored to play bass behind Johnny at least twice on the Arizona Steel show and have the autographed set list! _________________ Bill Cunningham
