I had the privilege of hearing and watching Ricky Davis play with Weldon Henson's band in Fort Worth on Saturday, March 25. Ricky is a master traditional country steeler. He played with Dale Watson's Lone Stars and Miss Leslie/Leslie Anne Sloan for several years. Ricky's steel ride on Big Mamou was featured on the introduction to Tru Country television for quite some time. His personality and interaction with the crowd enhance his skill. He also sings harmony regularly, and sang lead on one song. Outstanding job, Ricky, Thank you! |

Wow; thank you Jim for the very kind supportive words. Great seeing you out in Cow-Town. I sang "She's a Barmaid in the Honky Tonk Downstairs"...

Weldon, Ricky and the boys are the real deal. Texas honky tonk at its best. Here's "Pass Me The Wine" off the "Weldon Henson: Live from Mercer Dancehall" CD.

If you want to study some great steel licks, spend some time listening to my pal Ricky D |

I have not seen Ricky in the last few years but did see him a few years ago when he was with Dale Watson. Man, What a show.
Ricky was on fire that night along with Dale. They were quite a team together. J.R. Rose _________________ NOTHING..Sold it all. J.R. Rose |

Thanks so much Joe for your admiration. Our Tone is really the only personality we project with our melodies we create. I LOVE that part.

That comes through in Ricky's playing. There were a couple of times last Saturday night when my dance partner and I felt shivers run up our spines when he played certain runs. That's steel guitar! |

Thanks so much Jim. My Mentor Lloyd Green has always said to me: "Music is a Musical Conversation, that must happen between musicians and listeners". I Love passing on my most heartfelt Musical Conversation, per story; every time I play. My musical composer Graham Reynolds(does all soundtracks for Richard Linklater and more) actually asked me one time; he wants to record what I musically felt when I saw and thought about the story of "The Marfa Lights" and this is what he recorded from me>

Hey Ricky, I just scrolled through the songs that are on your Instagram account and there's a picture of you at your Bud and that's the song you play.Plus, when you worked your magic on my Sho~Bud,you sent a sample of you playing my steel and you played "Sarah's Song".
It's a very moving piece. You have such feel and your exuberance for playing shines through on every note. Plus you're a good human. |

Thanks Jim so much; those are very nice encouraging words of what I do; and it certainly keeps me going at what/how I do.
