Good Lord.

I’m plenty handy with tools but I cannot for the life of me get eight mounting bolts to thread so that I can mount a new TT12 into my Nashville 112. The bolts barely extend into the threads so there is very little bite. I can get six in and then the last two? No dice. I’ve tried leaving them loose once they thread so that I can slightly reposition the speaker but I’ve been at it for about an hour and I’m really wanting to try out this speaker!

Anybody else have this problem or have I suddenly become inept with a screwdriver? I mean come on. I rebuilt the entire undercarriage of an LDG and I can’t do this?

Ok I got it done. Persistence! But wow. Was ready to go to the hardware store and buy longer bolts!

I thought NV112s had front mounted studs with nuts on the rear?

Anyway, good you got it. Is the mounting flange that much thicker on the TT than the Blue Marvel?

I installed a TT12 speaker in a (US made) NV112. Don`t recall having any problems.

I have two NV112 amps. The Blue Marvel speakers are made by Eminence as are the TT12 speakers. I replaced the Blue Marvels in my amps with two Travis Toy speakers that I had, and it was a very painless exercise. I have to say that the TT12's are a great replacement and give a cleaner and transparent mid range than the original speakers. Plus the decrease in weight is a big advantage.

My NV112 was made in 2016 so it’s not a USA version. The eight mounting bolts are threaded studs with a Phillips pan type head on them. They attach to threads that are recessed into the front of the cabinet. They’re 3/4 or 5/8” long (I didn’t measure and I’m not taking one out now!!) The flange on the TT12 is thicker than the Blue Marvel because it has a ring of foam type padding on the back side of the flange that goes around the speaker. The bolts will compress that and push through it when you tighten them up but, in my case at least, it made it difficult for the bolts to thread. In several attempts, I could get six bolts in but the last two would not thread. So I took them out, started over with the two that wouldn’t thread, left those a little loose, and tried to get the other six threaded so I could come around and snug them all up. Same problem several times. I ended up taking a knife and cutting away just enough of the foam on the back side of the flange to allow the mounting bolt to sit flush against the metal frame of the speaker and that solved my problem.

To be clear, I’m not intending to be critical of the speaker or the amp. Both are great and get 5 stars from me. Just wasn’t expecting to wrestle with it like that.

And after all that what’s my verdict on the sound?? I didn’t get to play it very loud since it was late by the time I got done, but I’m really liking it! Before I bought the new speaker, I had spent a fair amount of time trying to tweak the mids, mid-shift, and highs and I just couldn’t seem to get it where I liked it. There was a very noticeable difference for the better as soon as I fired it up with the new speaker. Very happy with it and looking forward to playing it some more this weekend.

I recently replaced the OEM Emi speaker in my Quilter Mach 3 with a TT. It front loads with t-nuts installed in the baffle. Even though I was replacing an Emi speaker with another Emi, the screws were just barely long enough. Same deal as you, it seemed like 'uh oh, this isn't going to work. Gonna need longer screws'. But like yours, the gasket compressed just enough to get the 4 screws to bite (or in your case, to seat the nuts on the studs).
Actually, it's the t-nuts that are a bit short -- they are rear mounted and don't extend all the way through the baffle so all four screws are only engaging a few threads and really could use to be 1/4" longer. But I think it'll be ok.

I do like the speaker.

Joe Gerst, designer of the JBL D-130, actually recommended that no more than 4 screws should be used to mount the speaker. 🔊

My speaker came with two gaskets. One on the inside and one on the outside of the mounting edge. Depending on the mount front load or rear load. Remove the gasket you don’t need and the screws were plenty long enough. For my Nashville 112 I removed the back gasket (not needed )…

Jay, I had posted about this same issue a few months back, but I was working with a TT!2 and a Mojotone Lite cab. I did end up getting longer bolts in the end!
