I think most of the steel guitar "originals" we're familiar with put it around 90-100 bpm. Seems like the more modern pedal players play (or played) it around 110-120, and I usually played it there, or a little faster. The song it's based on, "Guitar Rag" (by Black bluesman Sylvester Weaver) was probably the slowest at around 70-80 bpm, though his timing gained some speed as he went on.
Here's a link to that version, recorded 9 years before Leon McAauliffe's (most famous) version.

Steel Guitar Rag and Wipeout as fast as possible to get it over with.
Bob White had the right idea when he combined the two and came up with Steel Guitar Wipeout. _________________ 1976 Birdseye U-12 MSA with Telonics 427 pickup, 1975 Birdseye U-12 MSA with Telonics X-12 pickup, Revelation preamp, Carbon Copy Delay and Hall Of Fame Reverb, Crown XLS 1002, 2- 15" Eminence Wheelhouse speakers, ShoBud Pedal, Effects Pedals. 1949 Epiphone D-8. |
