1932 movie "Bird of Paradise"

John Troutman's book Kika Kila discusses how the traveling stage show "Bird of Paradise" popularized steel and Hawaiian music in general at the beginning of the 20th century. So I thought that the 1932 Hollywood movie of the same name might be interesting.

Be warned: it must have had the very slightest, if that, connection to the stage show. It was shockingly racist, depicting islanders as primitive savages. They made up nonsense words rather than using Hawaiian (there were several Hawaiians in minor roles who could have helped there). The white man hero forces himself on the chief's daughter, trampling all over their culture in a caricature of colonial disdain.

AND barely any actual Hawaiian music!
