To be released in May, here is a review and cut from the new release by Marty titled 'Altitude'.

Was wondering who played steel, could be Chris Scruggs or Gary Carter, whom ever it is, it sounds great.

Yes I just talked to Chris Scruggs and that is indeed Gary Carter on cool old sounding pedal steel. Chris played Upright Bass and Danelectro string bass Tic Tac....and Pig Robbins on Piano....wow they are sounding awesome and have tours lined up...yeeehaaa...ya'll get out there and support REAL country music....OH and Marty Wrote all the songs ....BAM....don't get better than that.

Thanks Ricky, that's what I thought, am looking forward to hearing the whole album. Marty is the best and I'm so happy that Chris is in the band, they are making great music.

Would love to visit Philadelphia Miss, to see Marty's museum and concert hall!

It's got all the good ingredients. Gary sounds like he cut his teeth in Bakersfield, High 3rd rhythm guitar, and Marty Stuart chord changes. I left comments on his Instagram page right after it dropped. I was pretty accurate according to what Ricky said!

This must have been in the can for a while since Pig Robbins has been gone just over a year.

Ricky - Since you have access to Chris Scruggs' ear, you may ask him if Gary will be touring with them in support of the new record. Maybe Aubrey Haney on Fiddle? Got a strange feeling maybe not. First release "Country Star" didn't have Pedal Steel or fiddle. I don't think he's had anyone since Gary Hogue as a band member.

It's a little (lot) disappointing getting excited about songs with Pedal Steel on the session, then find out the artist doesn't use it live. Midland comes to mind...I went to one of their shows and no steel.

I'd still pay money to see Marty & Co., but probably nobody else.

I just asked him and This is the BAND that is always and will tour that way. That pic is Marty S; Kenny V on Guitar; Harry S on Drums and Chris Scruggs on Bass....Killer Band.

They will have some sit'in singer/entertainers come spring/summer time; you can see on their schedule here>

Kenny, You never know, Chris played some fine steel with a Sho-bud on the Sweethearts tour!

Ricky, you're right - KILLER band! Best (especially 4 piece) on the planet. Marty can do us proud on Ol' Clarence taking care of the Pedal Steel parts. A lot of people probably won't know the difference. I understand the need to travel as light as possible.

Craig: You're correct about Chris. He can play anything! Who knows - Maybe Kenny V can take over bass and Chris could play Pedal Steel! (probably not since Marty has the bender mastered)

I recently fixed up a Sho~bud For Chris; wait till you hear him play that sweet ride....I'm so proud of Chris; I've known him since he was just a teen and him and his Mom the Famous Gail Davies came on tour in Europe with me and Dale Watson back in late '90's or year 2000.
Chris started young and yes he can hear and play any instrument....and almost everyone in that Marty Stuart band are the same way....what a unreal group of musicians.

I love Gail Davies!!! Our female fiddle player is singing "Bucket To The South" now, and will probably start working on "I'll Be There" & "No Love Have I" soon. Gail is an amazing talent. My favorite of hers is "Jagged Edge of a Broken Heart". Always liked the bass lines in the song, and wasn't really surprised recently to find out that Leland Sklar was on that album.

I stumbled upon Marty at the TSGA the year he surprised Gary Hogue with his HOF induction. He was alone in the hallway behind the stage, leaning against the wall with one boot resting on it. I struck the same pose about two feet from him, looked him in the eye and said "I'm in love with your wife." He looked back and said "Yeah, you and half of the country!" I always thought if I ever had the chance to play with her I'd probably just quit afterwards - couldn't get any better than that!
