Digitech makes several units designed to provide harmony for vocals. I was wondering if any of you that own one have ever used it on instruments such as steel, fiddle or guitar. If so, how were the results?
Thanks,
Ken |

Hi Ken,
Have a studio vocalist. Works great on vocals and single note things but difficult on anything else that I have tried. It is fun to play around with and occasionally you get lucky.

Ken,
DigiTech makes,(or,at least, used to make) a rackmount called a "Smart Shift"(mod.# IPS-33),& a "Super Smart Shift" (mod. # IPS-33B) Buddy Emmons used a "B" model to record,"Triple Play" on his "Swingin' Our Way" album. Ya might wanna check that out.

Used to have one of the original ones and it was great. I remixed a vocal on a multitrack through it and had a great quartet. |

I just bought an IPS33 (again) and recently owned a Digitech 2112 which also has intelligent pitch shifting. They have limited use on the band stand for steel but I could sure see the value for vocals in a small group.
For steel the slower you play the more distinct the double sound will be. On fast songs it just sounds like another effect you can't quite relate to.
I go back and forth about having one and now have decided to just go ahead and use one here and there for something a little different to tickle the ears of the listeners.

I have a Digitech IPS-33B in my rack. Great for adding a little more to the ride. I use it for harmony, tremelo, octave up or down and a few other cool things. Digitech discontinued the 33B and came out with a "better" one, but I didn't like it nearly as well. You can find them used from time to time. Just make sure you have the foot switch for it. Without it, it's nearly impossible to use on stage. You can also add a volume pedal for whammy effects and pedal bending. (There is a jack on the back, It doesn't effect the volume.)

I was able to duplicate the Triple Play settings on my Boss GX-700. If you're wanting this effect just for an instrument, this might be an alternative for you as the GX is a full function effects processor as well.
It also has an effects loop that can be moved anywhere you want in the effects chain. I run my volume pedal in the effects loop which lets me decide which effects I want before and after my volume pedal. |

Actually what I was interested in was adding one to my small home studio. It would be used mainly for vocal harmony parts. But it probably wouldn't be worth my while unless I could use it for an occasional steel, fiddle, or guitar harmony part.
Thanks for all the replies.

Hi Ernie now I see this thred, I was researching this DIGITECH IPS33B machine, I see it in Franklin's rack and he uses it in channel 112, but investigating here and I found out that in each channel you can store and set any other program what would be factory set in cabal 112 as you will see in the photo I will post, I don't know what it can do for a pedal steel guitar but it would be nice to know Paul in 112 what program he has set and what effect it gives on steel. Thanks a lot Francesco
