The settings I used with a D-10 Franklin with Lawrence 710 pickups and George L's strings and cables:
Bass +6 to +9
Mid 800Hz and -3

Carter with a George L. My settings are like Jack's: main thing is to cut the midrange. I set mine at 800 or 900 and about -4.
I boost bass a bit, and if I boost highs or presence, it's not by much! |

Please note, I believe these amp settings are determined by the speaker installed. I had a rough time with my 112 loaded with an eminence 12” until I tried tommy white’s settings and it took out a lot of the excess zing that was inherent with eminence speaker thereby warming up the amp considerably. |

I would go with the Buck Reid; but shift more at 1-oclock.; and I always tilt the front if on floor; or flat on a milk crate ..ha.
PS; John Lacy has a great point...the SPEAKER is EVERYthing really; as that is why you move knobs on the front; to suit the speaker that is inside...PERIOD!!

Thanks Phillip, I hear what your saying. Ain't like I'm going to foul anything up, if it doesn't work, go back to what you had before or try something new.
I appreciate your attitude. |

As Ricky said, speakers vary in total tonal response. I had 4 1501 speakers from different periods of time. I had two matching cabinets that I compared all of them side by side. Each 1501 had a different tone. The best one, to my ear, was the old flat magnet spider 1501. If you're using a pair of any speakers, be sure they are a matched pair or purchase new at the same time. Obviously, each brand will sound different and you'll have to eq the amp to retain your ideal tone. Mid Shift: 800hz is a starting point. The speaker will be a factor, but usually something less than 800hz is where you'll end up. Somewhere between 500hz - 800hz. Someone else can chime in on this, but I think the Fender Twin (factory tone stack) mid is around 650hz? _________________ 1976 Birdseye U-12 MSA with Telonics 427 pickup, 1975 Birdseye U-12 MSA with Telonics X-12 pickup, Revelation preamp, Carbon Copy Delay and Hall Of Fame Reverb, Crown XLS 1002, 2- 15" Eminence Wheelhouse speakers, ShoBud Pedal, Effects Pedals. 1949 Epiphone D-8. |
