I'd like to gather information to help me predict how the wall thickness of the changer finger is related to tone and sustain.

Here's the dimension I'm curious about:

This one has a wall thickness of 1/16". On a different guitar I have, the thickness is 1/8".

I'd like to find what this dimension is on Zum, MSA, and Infinity, but info on any make is welcome. If anyone has pictures of disassembled changers and is willing to share, please post or PM me. Thanks.

The early Sho Buds had a very thin wall over the changer finger and sounded great. I think that the early Emmons had the same situation--maybe a 1/16" of material over the changer axle.

The early Sho Buds even with smaller axles seemed to also have the thinner aluminum over them. But the big axles always sounded better to me.

I've always liked the tone of the really thin aluminum over the fairly heavy steel axle.

Thanks, David. That's interesting that earlier Emmons had a 1/16" wall. I found a photo of a late model changer here on the forum and it seems they went to 1/8" at some point.

I suspect that sustain increases as the thickness of aluminum decreases.
