I’m seeking knowledgeable opinion on shipping a Ric B6 overseas. We all know Bakelite necks are easily broken which is a concern in shipping.
My thought on this is to separate the neck and the body and wrap them individually to prevent the neck snapping at the tenon where it joins the body. With the neck and body separated, there is no leverage created at the tenon.
If anyone out there has experience thoughts or ides with shipping Bakelite Rics, please chime in. By the way, this postwar B6 is being shipped overseas, |

Shipping any guitar is scary, especially that one. I think your idea of separating the neck and body is sound, if the person on the other end is cool with it. |

I spoke to someone who ships Rics often. He always removes the neck from the body. If have done the same. It seems much much safer.
Thank you all |

I get why people don’t want to ship overseas. It’s a little bit of a hassle and expense. |

Yes, once the item leaves our shores, you lose all control of it!

Great, I may be buying one soon and I'll ask if they can do that too. |

Hi, I bought a Rickenbacher B6 from Erv a few months ago and had him ship it to my brother in Pennsylvania. It has a soft case and was packed well. My brother took a peek inside and then closed up the box and shipped it to me to Sweden. No damage, no problem. I have had about 30 guitars of various types shipped to me here with never any breakage. I wouldn't be too worried about it. Good job packing Erv! _________________ Roots blues musician, love vintage instruments. www.deivert.com |
