A brief back-story before I start this thread. I recently advertised over here for a six or eight string pedal steel, purely for home use as an occasional change from lap-steel, reso and b***o. Make or model unimportant as only I would play it, as long as it works as it should.
I was offered an old Fender 400 in need of some TLC. I bought it on the strength of a few photos and a vague description and it arrived today. Now read on!
TLC doesn't really cover it, to be honest it's in pretty worn shape. At first glance, it needs a tuner button, a hook on one pedal linkage and maybe the original pick-up?
There were two more pedals, no longer there. A couple of knee levers have been added (I think) at some stage The paint-work
is in need of refreshing. The Fender sticker needs replacing as well. All in all, it's maybe more work than I can cope with, especially living so far from possible parts suppliers etc.
I could tidy it up and just use two pedals and one knee lever for now, but it seems such a waste when it could do more. I thought I'd post this with pics, just in case there are any serious Fender fans out there who might be interested in taking it on. There's a fine vintage guitar underneath the dirt and distress. All I need is a small 6 or 8 string, so I'd be delighted to discuss a p/ex, swap or straight sale.
The numbers on the console read 400-8-SN, also 02443
All advice, suggestions etc appreciated.
