Tube or solid state

I have owned and played through a lot of amps in my time. I had a Twin in the late 1970s, I liked it, but got a Standel, I liked it but got a Gibson and I hated it. Too many different amps to remember.

I have finally settled down to two that I "really" like. A 100 watt Vave King with JJ 6l6s and a 15" Altec and a 1976 Session 400 with a 15 "Altec.

Which one do I like most? I don't know. They both sound great, just different.

I said I have settled down to two, but lately I have been wondering about a Quilter. It would be lighter and I do have an extension cabinet with a 15" Altec..

There are those that must have tubes and others just as happy with solid state. Didn't seem to bother Emmons either way and he sounded like Buddy whatever amp he used.

My Quilter Tone Block 202 (Travis Toy 12 combo) is solid state and one "Voice" setting (FullQ) its a solid state amp and EQ similar to a Quilter Steelaire sound, another voice switch setting *VINT) and its a "Fenderish" sound. I've been using the "VINT" Voice setting more and more lately with my GFI with a Lawrence 710 pickup.
