I've been contemplating adding a second pickup to my 75 MSA Classic. I currently have a Telonics pickup which sounds amazing, but I'd like to bet a single coil in there as well. Then it made me realize I'm not sure if I've seen a pedal steel guitar with two pickups in it before. is there a reason for that? is the placement for a second pickup just not ideal? any insight is appreciated. _________________ 1975 MSA Classic, AA1164 Princeton clone, Quilter Tone Block 202, Custom Warmoth Jazzmaster, two Kazou Yairi Alvarez Acoustics from the 80's, Acme Low B2 bass cab. |

It’s the way it’s always been done so that’s the way it is….haha. A few people HAVE put 2 pickups in. Russ Pahl’s ShowPro, for one.
Sneaky Pete’s old Fender 400 had 2.
I have two Stringmaster pickups on my Fender.
I had Ron at Justice guitars make room for another pickup when he made my S-10 Jr.
It’s rare but a growing trend. More tonal options are good, I think. _________________ KEVIN MAUL: Airline, Beard, Clinesmith, Danelectro, Evans, Fender, GFI, Gibson, Hilton, Ibanez, Justice, K+K, Live Strings, MOYO, National, Oahu, Peterson, Quilter, Rickenbacher, Sho~Bud, Supro, TC, Ultimate, VHT, Williams, X-otic, Yamaha, ZKing. |

Paul Franklin had 2 pickups on his red/yellow front Franklin that he used with Dire Straits.

You guys might be interested in this, I need to get it up on my website, but heres a pic of a removable single coil pickup. It fits within the typical fretboard to strings spacing, the pickup itself is 7/16 inch tall and then there is some thicknes for tape, velcro, etc to secure it. The built in jack is 1/8 or 3.5 mm mono. I have also made them with a built in cable.
Contact me for details if interested here or from my website. _________________ Scott Swartz

A buddy of mine (since passed) had two pickups in an old MSA D10 on the E9 neck. _________________ I don't know much but what I know I know very well.

That's pretty cool Scott! I'd be interested in trying one of those out. _________________ 1975 MSA Classic, AA1164 Princeton clone, Quilter Tone Block 202, Custom Warmoth Jazzmaster, two Kazou Yairi Alvarez Acoustics from the 80's, Acme Low B2 bass cab. |
