Hi all, Dutch singer-songwriter Melanie Ryan released another song a few days ago and I had the great pleasure to contribute pedal steel guitar on one of her songs, again. Tastefully produced by my good friend Nick Jongejan. Played on my 22 year old Zumsteel Stage One student model through a Boss Katana amp. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_j-J1bVQx4 |

Thanks, Tony! I agree and she's also a great songwriter, imo. I've been in the music industry non-stop professionally for the past 50+ years and it warms my heart that there are still young people these days (also overhere in The Netherlands) who love to write and sing Country Music songs.
Here's her previous release from a few months ago that I also got to play on: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ekG_X-eCdg |

Nice playing Andre! Could you share the settings you used on the Katana? |

Thanks, Pete! Ofcourse amp settings always depend on the steel guitar, the player and personal preference but here are some pics of how I set my Katana 100 for this Zumsteel. I use the Clean amp setting, btw.
I also changed some parametric EQ settings through the Boss Tone Studio software. As I often said, the real trick to make this amp shine for pedal steel guitar, imo. These settings are both the parametric EQ on the channel and globally. Although I will change the global setting to the channel settings. This is an ongoing work in progress I have the "line out airfeel" set to "Blend" and the "cabinet resonance" to "vintage".
Hope this was helpful. |

Thanks, Larry! I just love this old student model Zumsteel guitar in combination with The Boss Katana.
Here's another example where you can hear the sound of this combo (including a solo) which was recorded two years ago with a couple of my good friends. We never played this song before together and we all recorded our own takes individually from our homestudio's and it got mixed together later on.
The saxplayer is Candy Dulfer, probably best know for her hitrecord "Lily was here" (together with Dave Stewart) and her cooperation with Prince and many others: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KncAITUDUs0
BTW, the other studiosession clip on my YouTube channel was recorded using a Roland Cube 80-XL. |
