Hello everyone!
I just purchased a Thomas pedal steel guitar. The pedal steel hasn't been played in at least a year, so I've replaced the strings, cleaned and oiled the rollers near the headstock, and also oiled the fingers at the bridge.
I'm having a problem with tuning the 6th string's B pedal. From my understanding, it's supposed to go from a G# to an A. Currently, when the pedal is depressed, it is way flat of an A. I have tried to tune it up, but it didn't really do anything. After turning the tuning peg quite a bit, now it won't turn at all, and I'm afraid to force it. I was able to tune all of the other pedals and knee levers without any issues.
Does anyone know why it is doing this, and if so, how to fix it?
Thank you in advance for any help!
-Nathan

Nathan, 1st check that you have the correct string on there. Most steels use a plain 6th. if you put a wound on there it will throw it out of whack, make sure it's the right gauge also. If not that there is a sticky post at top of page about overtuning. |

Thank you for the advice. I’ll double check the string, and check out the post as well. Thank you! |

Since you're not lowering that string you probably should use a .022W there. Also, you might use the middle changer hole and the hole furthest from the bell crank axle. Matching .012 and .022W works good on strings 3 & 6. _________________ Best lyric in a country song: "...One more, Moon..." |

Looks to me like it’s got the changer finger pushed in and what we refer to as being over tuned. Back out that nylon tuner until it clears changer, then tune your open and try pedal then and tune. _________________ Henry Matthews

Thank you all for the help and advice! I got the tuning nut unstuck, and tried to back off the tuner then retune. It's still not able to go in tune. I'm taking it in to Jim Palenscar tomorrow. Hopefully he can get it fixed! Thanks again for the help!
