Just acquired a sd10 Derby.Played it some and then wrote the check and brought it on home. Was ok with the tone on the purchase day.Figgered it could only sound better at home through my amp and accessories. Was something surprised with the tone, it was noticeably better than what I was accustomed to hearing. Have three other guitars (name brand no junk stuff) that I play regularly that sound good but this Derby had a tone that was a notch above them. Sustain was also longer .Playing high on the neck above the 12 fret was better and playing right on the 12 th fret didn't have overtones. I'm afraid to put any new strings on it. Must be living right.

The Derby I had is the only guitar I've sold that I would buy back. They're really good guitars.

Larry, I have a Derby SD10 3X5 that I got a couple years ago. It's equipped with a George L E66 pickup and the tone is incredible. It's my favorite out of my collection. I play it most of the time. I'm using SIT nickel strings, the Emmons E9 set with a plain 6th string .022 gage.

This Derby also has the gle66 pu. I've used and have on hand cobra coil ,ghs and sit strings. Might be a good time to a-b test for and settle on the best for this particular guitar. Anyway can't get over the tone. You know what you're used to and really notice when it's suddenly better ,as in this case.

I love my Derby. I've said before that they might be the most underrated, best bang-for-the-buck-steels out there. Mine came with an E66 pickup. I've had a 705 in it for quite a while. I might put the E66 back in, just to compare again.
