Hello all.- I’m finding that the tuning pegs are a little closer together on ten string necks than on plain old six string guitar necks.

No kidding, right? Do ya’ think?

Anyway,, have any of you run into a neck tuning peg wrench?

Just something to slip down over the peg and let you keep your fingers above the other pegs while you turn the peg and maybe provide a little mechanical advantage. Maybe a nice knurled grip like on the 3/16} wrench I just ordered to work the nylons?

I’m not talking about a winder. Just a simple tool for tweaking.

Or, maybe I just invented “The Jeff”?

I remember that!

You have to come down more vertically on the machine-head and the spacing can be tight.

I resorted long ago to an electric tuner but, for everyday tweaking, it's still a manual operation for me. You may have invented something but most of us get used to it, I guess.

Why is this the wrong way up???

You can just palm this or you can try to yank out the driver stem (and palm it easier.)
Or just get used to how it is.

Got one of those Planet Waves drill bit winders. Used it yesterday to loosen up the stiff keys on my Super Pro. REAL handy for that. Winking

Yup. kinda like the Planet Wave drill winder except with a simple knurled grip..

Orrrrrrr,……..Maybe cut the drive end off to the right length and epoxy it into a nut driver?

Voila’, we may have just invented “The Jeff”!

There is also an all plastic peg winder. You could cut the shaft off easy to make a small tool to tune the keys with. Or Insert it in some small tool that would get you above the keys.
I bought it at a local music store.
Here is a picture of 1 installed in a screw driver.

My S12 has keys so close, I have to align the keys so this plastic key turner will fit between the keys when changing strings.

Actually a string winder like the old dual sized dunlop or the newer Ernie Ball with the handle for about $5 would do just what you want and give you the leverage you need to turn a tuning key. I have both those drill mounted attachments and they don't work very well without the drill or some kind of handle.

Not the single sized wide flat one....it's too wide for short keyheads.

Thanks Jerry. I sorta came to the same conclusion while was looking at the 16,982 choices on Amazon. I

I hope what I ordered isn’t too wide. If it is, well, I’ll just have to find a way to move on with my life

I am looking for a tool that will hold the ball end of the string onto the peg at the changer end. I find that I have put my finger on the end of the string to hold it down. Unfortunately that only leaves one hand to deal with the tuning machines at the other end.
