Concerning the old Peavey EDI boxes: Does anyone know what resistor values were used in the voltage divider? Also, was any capacitors used? What parts did the (Timbre) adjustment adjust---the voltage divider? In the Peavey application guide it talks about a 600 ohm transformer. I assume it is a 1:1 turns ratio?

Hi Keith! Long time no see!

I'm not sure what the design of that EDI is like on the inside, but it was the first time I'd thought about it in a long time. As a Peavey dealer back in the day, we sold quite a few of those. I did a bit of a google search for a schematic, but came up empty handed. However, there are a LOT of those for sale on the various online marketplaces; ebay, reverb, etc. They seem pretty inexpensive, around 30.00 to 35.00 bucks, so you might consider just buying one and reverse engineering it. I doubt you could buy the parts to make one any cheaper than that.

Thanks Bill. Yes, you are correct, there are a lot of them for sale on Ebay. I agree you could not buy the parts for what they are selling for. They work great on the old amps that don't have a line out for the PA. I will get one and see what is inside. I doubt there is much of a need for those boxes today as most newer amps have a line out for the PA.

Assuming that this is the box that connects between the amp and speaker, with an XLR tap out to the PA.......

I also wondered about these, but never bought one.

However, two similar more modern (available) devices are:
Palmer PDI-09, somewhat hard to find, I've used one for about 20 years.
Friedman MicNoMo, almost the same as the Palmer, slightly cheaper, easier to find. I have one but haven't used it much yet.

Neither of these are that expensive.

Note: If you are using these with a tube amp, you will still need a load/speaker.

ajm, I am using one of the old EDI Peavey boxes with my Evans amp. The Evans amp has a 1/4 speaker output jack intended for running an additional speaker. I plug the EDI box into the speaker output. The XLR goes to the PA. They transfer the signal great, nothing lost.
