Concerning the old Peavey EDI boxes: Does anyone know what resistor values were used in the voltage divider? Also, was any capacitors used? What parts did the (Timbre) adjustment adjust---the voltage divider? In the Peavey application guide it talks about a 600 ohm transformer. I assume it is a 1:1 turns ratio? |

Hi Keith! Long time no see!
I'm not sure what the design of that EDI is like on the inside, but it was the first time I'd thought about it in a long time. As a Peavey dealer back in the day, we sold quite a few of those. I did a bit of a google search for a schematic, but came up empty handed. However, there are a LOT of those for sale on the various online marketplaces; ebay, reverb, etc. They seem pretty inexpensive, around 30.00 to 35.00 bucks, so you might consider just buying one and reverse engineering it. I doubt you could buy the parts to make one any cheaper than that. _________________ Lost Pines Studio

Thanks Bill. Yes, you are correct, there are a lot of them for sale on Ebay. I agree you could not buy the parts for what they are selling for. They work great on the old amps that don't have a line out for the PA. I will get one and see what is inside. I doubt there is much of a need for those boxes today as most newer amps have a line out for the PA. |

Assuming that this is the box that connects between the amp and speaker, with an XLR tap out to the PA.......
I also wondered about these, but never bought one.
However, two similar more modern (available) devices are:
Palmer PDI-09, somewhat hard to find, I've used one for about 20 years.
Friedman MicNoMo, almost the same as the Palmer, slightly cheaper, easier to find. I have one but haven't used it much yet.
Neither of these are that expensive.
Note: If you are using these with a tube amp, you will still need a load/speaker. |

ajm, I am using one of the old EDI Peavey boxes with my Evans amp. The Evans amp has a 1/4 speaker output jack intended for running an additional speaker. I plug the EDI box into the speaker output. The XLR goes to the PA. They transfer the signal great, nothing lost. |
