Hello everyone. I’m a relatively experienced lap steel player but brand new to this forum. For years I’ve been playing a cheap Rogue lap steel, of which I modded everything. The only original part left is the body. I’ve always wanted a vintage guitar though and this past week I stumbled upon a Granada, which for those who don’t know is a clone of the Fender Deluxe 6-string Stringmaster and the exact same guitar as the Jedson that David Gilmour plays, and bought it. It badly needs new pickups. I put an EMG S with the SPC control in my Rogue and love the sound, so I’m probably going to put EMG’s in the Granada but need some help. The Rogue has just the 1 pup, but the Granada has 2. How do you all think the Granada would sound with 2 EMG S pups? Would it react the same as playing 2 pups on say a Strat? My other option is to install 1 EMG H, which is a single coil in a humbucker housing. Except the problem there is that I’d need a new cover plate. Does anyone know where I could find or have made a cover plate for a Granada/Jedson/(I assume a Fender would fit) in stainless steel?

Thank you for the help. I look forward to chatting with everyone in the future.
Jeff

These normally (at least the Fender version) have a pair of single coils RWRP wired in series to give Humbucking and a thicker sound. I would not think doing that with active EMG's would be a good idea.
of course you can do what you like with the Granada and if you really like the sound of the Emgs you could install a pair and a 3 way switch

I really like the sound of the EMG S in my other lap steel, as well, I have them in 1 of my strats, but am skittish of having 2 in the Granada as I don’t know whether they’d react like they do in the strat, which is a nice fat bluesy sound, or if they’d distort. And with the 3-way switch, how would 1 sound vs the other? I’ve never had a lap steel with 2 pups before. My other thought was to put Fenders in the guitar. Any suggestions which ones to go with.

Thanks for the advice.

Well if you put 2 in with a 3 way switch you could run the front one for a slightly more mellow sound being in about the same position as the pickup on your Rogue relative to the bridge, the rear for more bite and the combined for whatever it gives, use it or not, Would not expect distortion from the combined position.
