Hello Forum Memebers.
Lots of talented players on this forum. I'm out here alone in the Wilderness trying to build my chops on a beginner model and finding its limitations.

I'm currently playing on an MSA Red Baron (3+1), and am looking to step up to the next level Pedal Steel.
I'm in WNC, Jackson Co, and would prefer to do local 2-3 hrs away, but am open to non-local.

I'm not super firm on what I'm looking for but my idea of what I'm looking for is a single necker in E9, a double necker e9/C6, or even a 12-stringer, but I'd likely need a little advice before jumping into that. Must have a case.

I can't afford a $3000 pedal steel, looking more in the one to two grand range, but you know, if you've got something that's relatively in that range please let me know. I have a feeling that puts me in the 40-50 year old PSG range, with some wear & tear, and sech. I'm ok with a little dings and sech, but must be functionable right out of the case. Please no projects.

Looking forward to getting some responses from you.
Photos would be great, any info, comments, whatever.

Thanks,

Andrew

Andrew my thoughts are by new or used these Brands.
Stage one
Zum Encore
Jackson Maverick
Justice
GFi
BMI
Show Pro

There's more brands the forum members may recommend.

These Brands are still in business an sell parts if you want too add pedals , knees or buy parts.

I've never considered anything an "intermediate" steel guitar. Its the entry level guitars and the rest.

Thanks Johnie
Somebody has made me an offer on a GFI student model, also looking at a Dekley 12 stringer.
Any thoughts on those two?

The price points on those two are attractive,I bet. Dekleys are pro level, very solidly built but a bit heavy. The GFI would be a step up from your MSA but why not step a bit more? I’m partial to Justice guitars. They give you lots of bang for your bucks.

The GFI student model is limited and should not be considered for a step up. At a minimum for a GFI is an Expo model.

Dekleys are solid and I am told get an excellent sound. Pro guitars. And this one is a 12 string! That's the one I'd go for.

Hey All,

Thanks for all the great input from everybody and all the offers.
Ya'll are all truly a great bunch.

I ended up picking up a Dekley S12 yesterday, 7 pedals 3 knee levers. Still needs a little setup work, and I don't have my head totally wrapped around it (it was just yesterday). I know A,B,C the LKL raises E, the RKR lowers E, and I'm in the wilderness from there!
