Looking for a set of Fender, 4 per side tuning key for the Deluxe-8, Fender 400, Stringmaster, etc. Need the early Kluson type with the button tuners, not the later Fender individual ones or the Kluson reissues. The whole assembly with the pan would be fine, but I really only need the keys. Thanks!

is there a reason you don't want new reissues? They're exactly the same as the originals, 4 on a plate, 1" on center spacing. b0b sells them here: https://www.steelguitarshopper.com/nickel-kluson-inline-tuners/. The backing plate is integral, the tuners themselves can't really be separated without thrashing them

I know that the backing plates don't come off the keys. If they will fit the pan, that's fine, but from what I read on the Forum, the Kluson assembly doesn't fit the cavity on the guitar, and you have to hog out more wood to make it fit. Just looking for an original set of keys or full assembly.

Where did you read this? I don't believe this is correct, but I'd be curious to hear what direct experience others have had, would be helpful to others looking to do the same thing. Per Kluson's website, "These are exact reproductions and will retrofit your original Stringmaster® tuning machine tray." Best of luck to you.

It's on the very link that you sent me.

A customer with a Fender 400 pedal steel (not a Fender Stringmaster) cautions that some woodworking is necessary to use this product with that model:

Specifically, I wanted to say something about the replacement Kluson Tuning Machines that I just bought for my Fender 400 Short-scale. The product description which I assume is lifted straight from the factory literature states that they are an ´exact reproductions´ replacement. They are not. The ones that I received are a perfect fit in the tray, but they are 1/16¨ thicker and 1/32¨ longer than the originals. That may not sound like much, but it is enough that I had to enlarge the tuner tray cavity in the guitar for them to fit. I have the experience and the tools to do the job, but for someone else expecting an ´exact replacement´, it might prove to be a challenge. Care must be taken not to over-enlarge the cavity until it is wider or longer than the tray which would leave a gap and the need for another repair. I would like to pass the word on to other future buyers to avoid possible confusion or disappointment.

I want to be clear that now that the repair and replacement is done, I am completely satisfied with the product and results. This is not a complaint, I just want potential buyers to be aware of what they are getting into.

My experience with the repro Klusons is that they go straight in without any wood removal necessary.
