I ended up with a mint session 500 MK IV and it's remote ...i was just wondering would this amp work without that remote plugged in. If so how would i do that, as i can't seam to get any volume at all without it plugged into it's back socket. I also have all the original paper work that came with the amp and nothing that i can see mentions this. I know it's old tech but I sure love the sound of this thing. I have other Peavey amps as well but the 500 even makes my Telecaster sing. LOL I have PMed Mike Brown as well however i suspect he is really busy. Any help would be appreciated.
thanks
wayne

It does not require the remote to be plugged in, so there must be another issue.

Try this:

On the back of the amp. Take an instrument cable and plug into "preamp out" to "power amp in". This bypasses a switching jack that has been known to cause problems.

If that does not work, try plugging your cable from your volume pedal to the "preamp return" on the back of the amp instead of the "Normal" input on the front.

Last but not least, if these don't work, then try your cable from your volume pedal plugging into the "Pedal FROM" on the front of the amp instead of the "Normal" input on the front.

Let me know if any of these work for you. If they don't, I will see what I can find out from you from an old Peavey Tech that I know.

Thanks Bill I tried the 1st one you told me as i also want this amp for the tele as well which does not require a volume pedal. no sorry the cable patch did not work...so thank you for the reply and help and if you can think of anything else please let me know. And on another note i think we met once in Dallas at the steel show. If i'm right you and some other players were talking about some stories and memories of being on the road. I won't say here what i remember here just to keep it private. however the only part i will say was a story involving a steel getting thrown down some stairs....LOL...if i am remembering wrong i apologize. please let me know on the Peavey if you think of anything else
thanks

I have the same amp. It always worked without the remote, so Wayne's has some other issue.

Agree on the 500 being a superb platform for Telecaster as well as steel! Winking

Out of curiosity what switch was on that would negate the remote when plugged in?

Wayne, I just got John to join the forum yesterday as he was on the hunt for a ShoBud amp.

He is a super guy and knows his stuff for sure.

Thanks y'all. So glad to be here. I've always avoided forums but this one is the real deal. Anytime you need help with an amp (Peavey or otherwise) don't hesitate to contact me here or at hessiemae@hotmail.com. I'm taking on more repair work on the side now that the PV Service Center has downsized and I'm always happy to help by remote control, if possible.
