Topic: Where are all the Star-Buds |

I'm curious to know if any of us forumites have possession of any of the old "Star" Sho-Buds. For example, Lloyd Green's "Lightning Bolt" on loan to the Country Music Hall of Fame. Buddy's old "Bud" is in The Country Music HOF. Pete's "Old Goldie" in MHOF. But where are some of the others? Like Lloyd's black permanent, Jimmy Day's "Blue Darlin's" and his "Black Widow". Where are all those Buddy Charlton Buds. The Walter Haynes and numerous Hal Rugg Buds. What about Weldon's "Once A Day" permanent. Curly Chalker's Baldwin crossovers. And so many more. If you have a Star Sho-Bud let's see it.
I have Cecil Johnson's 68 perm that he played with Little Jimmy Dickens and Tammy Wynette. Soon to be totally restored. A good one to start the thread.

| I saw Curly Chalker's Big Hits on Steel Sho-Bud at a steel show near Chicago two years ago. TC Furlong would know who owns that one. |

I did own Bill Johnson's wraparound with which he recorded "The Shoe Goes On the Other Foot Tonight," a late 60's hit for Marty Robbins. Bill played a very cool solo on that guitar. It is now the prized possession of a good friend and major artist in the Texas country music scene.

Skip, I actually did some work on that Hal guitar when it was being built. Filing parts, cutting rod material and other little jobs. But I got to help and learn. Not bad for a 12 year old kid.Thanks for the picture.
Herb S. Im just looking for the Buds on this thread. The Emmons guitars will be in a different one.

This may be a hard request to fill. I'm sure that over the years, the guitars in question may have been sold several times, and the story attached to that guitar may have fallen by the wayside. They may have ended up in the hands of non-forum members, or owners who have since died, and the story died with them.
I'm really hoping that is not the case, and we will see them pop up here.

Where are all the greats and not so great steels. Their has to be hundreds of them in someones closet and under the bed. Or as Richard said someone brought them and passed on and the family did not know what they had. But where are they?? J.R.

| Years ago, the late Ed Naylor had Hal Rugg's keyless singleneck and also Jeff Newman's D-12 fingertip with the state of Texas inlaid in the front apron. I remember the endplates were chrome plated and the chrome was peeling off. Don't know if he ever sold them or not, but he had em!!!! |

Here's the real Original Blue Darlin Sho~Bud Permanent that Jimmy recorded all that great stuff with including Johnny Bush first album with Farewell Party on it>
Kevin Owens owns this famous Blue Darlin Sho~bud.

Ricky D. The guitar that Kevin has was one of the four black guitars that Shot built for Lloyd, Jimmy Day, Pete Drake and one other. Each guitar had one pearl inlaid card shape.
Lloyds had a heart. I think Jimmys was the spade. Petes I belive was the club.
Jimmy's was black until someone bought it and refinished it blue.
This is the first "Blue Darlin"

In his opening post Johnny has a small, but important to me and those who'd like to see it, error concerning my Fingertip Sho-Bud.
He has it listed as being on exhibit in the Musicians Hall of Fame. This is incorrect. I have nothing in that museum.
The Fingertip, owned by Gary Boyd of Pearsall, Texas, is on loan by Gary for about two years at the Country Music Hall of Fame for their major exhibit, "Dylan, Cash and the Nashville Cats".

Well, yes...but back then he was Donnie Lytle, songwriter and bassman. He changed his name to Johnny Paycheck around 1964. |

Darrell McCall left Ohio together and went to Nashville. I can't remember the year right now. Maybe some else does. J.R.

No.....Donnie Lytle changed his name to Donnie Young due to his admiration for Farron Young. During his time with Jones,he changed his name to Johnny Paycheck,after the boxer of a similar name. He later legally changed his name to Johnny Paycheck,according to his bio. His son still lives in Ohio,and runs the website I believe....
