not to bash anyone but i think $6000.00 for a 1980 pro 111
is a little high, what do you think

I would say about $3500 too high for this boat anchor. I know where there is one that looks to be in better shape than this one that could be bought for a song and dance. It would just have to be picked up at the southern tip of Florida.

Sorry to say it, but outfits like Reverb,Ebay,Craigslist know as much about pedal steel as the pawnshops do. I've long suspected that the steels that do end up at those outlets have been abused and/or worked very hard and need a lot of expensive rehab to be made right. If I were going to acquire a used steel, I'd start right here at home in the SGF Classifieds.

hold-on for a couple years & it may be worth even more , considering the way steel prices have risen lately.

Well you can put any price tag on it...but we never get to know how much it ACTUALLY sells for; if it even sells. That's exactly what has been going on here for couple/few years; the price tags I've seen are OUTRAGIOUS....and don't sell; or they get tired of it being up for sale; then do sell it for below their posting price.
I work in the steel guitar restoration biz; I work with Machinist and we know exactly how much it cost to put one back together; even better than it was originally built; and these folks selling them here and there on those sales sites, have them Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyy too expensive, and all that does is promote an even higher price tag for all these other sites:"reverb;ebay;craigslist...etc"....course that's going on with Property sales; Housing market.... and we all know why houses are getting valued at way more then they are worth and it goes on and on.
JUST REFUSE!!!!!!!!

Of course this Pro III is offered way above its legitimate value but that's not on the "outlet" , the outlet is just an avenue to SELL, no different than the BUY/SELL here on the SGF. Anyone can register and then offer musical gear for sale and THEY set the price, not the OUTLET. Reverb is a HOSTING WEBSITE not a person. One good thing it does do is list sales data with $ amounts. The HI's and the LO's, based on sales history. Any perspective buyer can access this data.

I've sold many small items thru REVERB as they have a HUGE audience, the issue I have with REVERB is the listing and final selling FEE's are too high.

In this particular case someone is offering a Steel at a crazy hi price, maybe even testing the market. Who can say. Sellers can ask anything they want, the actual sell price is unknown until it actually sells.

Just like here on the SGF , we have all seen prices of gear with crazy hi asking prices , sadly the SGF is not immune to this and we have also seen multiple times gear that was sold which was NOT as expected.

Well, Tony's right about high-end gear occasionally being advertised here at (ahem!) "optimistic" price points, but the fact remains that since b0b moderates all the classifieds, both the 'outlet' and the readership are somewhat more knowledgeable than your average Reverb/CL/Ebay surfer about what to look for and what to ask about relative to pedal steel. That's why both on the Forum and privately I always recommend to interested potential steel players that they look here first.

Yessir, you don't have to go any further than right here to see ridiculous prices on used guitars. Sometimes used ones priced as much as new ones. Hundreds, even thousands too much. I guess the forum action has had the benefit of exposure for seller's guitars and boosted listing prices to these levels.

The few recent reasonably priced guitars garnered other members encouraging the sellers to raise the price saying, "too cheap, you can get more". Considering a couple of them needed lots of cleaning and care plus had shot cases, they were at least doable. Also, members emailing sellers that they were selling too cheap, this I know from experience.

I need to buy another D10 but I ain't paying these obscene prices. If anyone has something for sale at a reasonable price I could be interested.

And Dave H is correct, we here on the SGF , well mostly, are very aware of market trends and approx pricing. But now and then we don't ask enough of the "RIGHT questions" either. Then we learn the answer to the question we DIDN'T ask when the instrument arrives.

Sometimes buyers don't ask any questions ---

" I'll take it "

I can personally state that in any transaction that I have had here on the SGF , BUY or SELL, they have all been honorable and ethical, no complaints.

In my opinion, it is a relative bargain when compared with the Sho-Bud D-12 currently listed at a mere $16.000.00 (drastically reduced from the originally listed price of $25,000.00), now there is a boat anchor!

I agree. I always try to sell things at a reasonable price. It’s not my livelihood but I think all musical instruments are going for way more than they’re worth usually. I will continue to list here first and they will be at reasonable prices. I’ve done that before - I pretty much always do it.

A good Sho Bud D 10 restoration on a Sho Bud by Ricky, Lynn or Billy would be in the $6000 price Range value

Since my name was put in on this quote; I have to state that I disagree with the $6000.00 price. As even; the Sho~buds that I or me and Lloyd M. bought and I totally restored to beyond belief; we did NOT sell any of them for more than 2800.00 to 3000.00 . Including(my fav. model) one just like Joe is sitting behind.

I value Sho Buds that's been restored to better than brand new condition compared too any other name brand new guitar priced at $6000
I'm not saying a Sho Bud should bring $6000
But I will say a restored Sho Bud that Ricky restored would be worth more too me than any name brand steel except the new push pull Emmons.
But the new Emmons is $10,000

The Sho Bud Joe is sitting behind in the picture has not been restored too new condition an I'm asking $3600 .

I understand; and I do admit that something is worth what someone will pay for it; but we never get to see how much someone pays when the ad comes up "sold"..>that don't mean it sold for the price listed. So now we have all these other sites referring to "The Steel Guitar forum" for prices....and the prices we're asking are increasing and increasing here and there. Now how does a incredible young talent(caleb lindley; Silas Hamilton; Liam Sullins; Caleb Melo; Jack Phillips and many more), going to afford a Classic Sho~bud sound; they want to make, but can't because they don't have 3 to 6 thousand dollars. These youngsters are OUR FUTURE; and they are already playing beyond what we their mentors are playing; and they are loving the history and wanting to re-create history with the instrument and style. I'm doing everything I can to help their progression and will continue because they are WORTH IT.
Ricky
