I have a 1970s T-8 Stringmaster, and the blend knobs seem to work in a strange fashion. The knurled discs rotate freely in either direction without coming to a stop. That is, they would rotate freely except that they tend to push down on the 4th and 5th strings behind the bridge, which also makes achieving uniform string spacing tricky.
They have no effect on the tone, but the blend can be achieved by using a screwdriver on the slotted screw head. This is presumably not the way they are supposed to operate, and yet it is the same on all three necks. So I am puzzled and would be grateful for any advice. |

So what you are saying is that the discs are loose and not actually turning the shaft of the pots?
They just push on so, presumably, you can pretty much just lift the discs off the shafts?
If so, you then have 2 choices - either figure out a way to make them fit tighter (probably open up the gap a tiny bit) or just use a screwdriver to set them. Actually, if you remove the discs, you can just turn the shafts with your fingers anyway.
For most people, the blend control is a set and forget knob and covered by the bridge cover anyway.
I'd vote to remove the discs - my orphan Stringmaster neck is just the bare shaft and works fine.
If I have misunderstood the problem, a couple of pictures would help. |

Thanks for your advice, Jeff. Yes, you understood what I was trying to explain, and I have removed the wheels altogether as you suggest.
I hadn't realized that they were a push fit, and it is clear to me now that they had just been pushed down much too far. |
