Guys:

I've been asked if it's possible to turn a righty B6 into a lefty. Do you have to flip the shoe as well as the nut?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

The height adjustment screws may have to be adjusted - or they may not - but the pickup itself doesn't have to be turned around.

The nut and bridge slots may have to be widened, but nothing should actually be flipped. It's not like you can move the integral nut anyway.

Hello from GeorgeBoards

About a nut repair, Rick Aiello (Spelling) gave a little tutorial some time back, I'm sure you can find the thread.

Basically he used Devcon Steel Epoxy, to fill the cuts, wait a week minimum for it to cure and then re cut to taste. No doubt some one will correct my statement.

The Bridge we can help you. I make 3D printed replacement bridges , so far everyone says they fit and many say they like the sound - tone better than the originals.

I have the 3" teepee and 4" teepee, as well a 4" other bridge found on some Ricky's.

On that pickup, make sure you get the wires correct, get them mixed up and the sound will come out of the back of your amp. Razz

Take a flashlight and look at the pole pieces ... most have a stagger (some of the oldest are flush) ...

If there is a stagger ... flip the bobbin ( or whole unit) ... you don't want the bass strings pairing up with the tall poles ....

It will be very difficult to get an even output if you don't

Thanks, as always, Rick, for your expertise in these matters. We rely on you heavily for info on these vintage Rickys, especially, and I think I speak for everyone here when I say we greatly appreciate it.

I have owned a bunch of Rickenbackers, both pre- and post-War, bakelites, frying pans, wood bodies, consoles, mandolins and guiatrs with horseshoes... and none of them had a stagger to the poles. I've never seen one that did.

I just took a flashlight to the guitar and there is indeed a stagger to the poles, as Rick indicated... enough that the lower strings--especially the lowest--would likely get hung up on a pole. As Rick suggests, just flip the shoe--should be easy enough to do.

I'd be very interested to see a picture of the poles. I know it's hard to get a good shot (I just tried on my B7 and lighting is tough) but I'm curious to see the amount of stagger.

My postwar B6 has staggered polepieces. As did the postwar NS pickup I sent out to Jerry Sentell for rewinding.

That's wild - I've definitely never seen one like that. They were all flat like my 1960 B7:

I'd say those are flat-ish... not totally flat, tho...

Between the wavy bobbin and the poor lighting, they may not look as flat as they actually are.

Notice Mark, I did not touch this one. I figured I pushed my luck as far as it would go with the painting the panels post. Looks like you got some good replies on your flippin post.
