Today makes a Month and 2 weeks I’ve been playing this contraption. What an adventure it’s been, but man I sure do love it. I’m glad y’all let me be a part of this too, the things I find on here has helped me tremendously. Anyways, here’s me and my ole Derby “Hootie” playing with our little band “The Country Troubadours”, Ronnie Dale doing us a Jones Classic “She Thinks I Still Care”. Enjoy!

Me - Steel Guitar
Ronnie Dale - Piano/Vocals
Gary Joseph - Guitar
Chip Miller - Bass
Richard Crabtree - Drums

Nice tone and in tune! You can do a lot with 2 pedals. Gets that country sound.

I appreciate that fellers, I got some good help. A local player has taken me under his wing and is showing me stuff, and of course I watch my #1 heros DVDs; Bruce Bouton.

You are doing great David.
Reminds me of me when I got started.
I had "owned" my steel for less than 2 months when our band leader called on a Thursday night and said bring your steel tomorrow night.
He said "I have already replaced you as bass player and our contract says we must have a steel on the stage. Our steeler just left to go on the road with Del Reeves (Danny Spinx)."

I remained on that same stage every Friday and Saturday night learning to play, for the next 8 years.
Best experience you can have.

You HAVE to play. No redo's, no backing up and starting over.

Congrats

I appreciate the kind words Bill, I sure do love it. Music is all I have in this world that makes me happy………. Funny you mention Del Reeves, the guy playing piano and singing in our band, Ronnie Dale, played with Del Reeves for years through the 80s and early 90s. Him and Del were big buddies up until Del passed away.

Well done, David!!!

I'd had my steel for several weeks when an experienced player told me: "Jump in at the deep end - you'll learn much faster if you put yourself on the spot."

That's what you've done and your intonation is very good already.

I can't quite see it: what steel do you have?

David, you sure seem to be on the right track... You'll listen to this a year from now and realize how far you've come, but you sure jumped into the ring Swinging. You are well on your way with this. Atta Boy!!!

I’ve got a late 90s Derby SD-10, it belonged to Darius Ruckers steel player, was his road Steel. I got it from Damir Basic. I LOVE Derby guitars, they sound so good. I’m gonna be in the market soon for a D-10, and I’m torn between getting an Emmons or another Derby.

You are doing very well David. Playing lead guitar is an advantage for you as well. In todays society there is so much video instruction available that was not there when many of us started. I do not know if you taken advantage of any of it but you just sound like a natural born steel player. Keep the videos coming.
