| I hear a tremolo effect on the recording of "half a mind" by Ernest Tubb with Buddy handling the steel early on. What other early classic recordings feature this effect on the steel parts? Does anybody still use this effect? |

One that comes to mind immediately is "Someone Before Me", by the Wilburn Brothers. There's also some very subtle tremolo steel on "Crazy", by Patsy Cline, which was actually done by someone working the volume control on Walter Haynes' amp while he played!
My "go-to" amp doesn't have tremolo (sometimes mistakenly called "vibrato"). So when I need some tremolo, I do it with the volume pedal. Just takes practice.  |

| I use my amp tremolo sometimes, sparingly. I have a vibrato pedal made by Barringer and I use it some. It is a surprisingly good pedal. |

On the other hand, a recording like Nightlife has a ramping up & down in the tremolo so it was probably done with the vol pedal in real time, or perhaps in the control room during tracking ( which I can't picture ) or maybe during a bounce/ mix down stage.

This topic came up a couple years ago in regards to Paul Franklin's beautiful playing on this Vince Gill performance, and the take away was that in this case, in choice moments, it is volume pedal technique....

That's vibrato, not tremolo. Tremolo is pulsating volume. |

| Of course, I wasn't there. But it sounds like an electronic tremelo effect. I think it would be very hard indeed to get that uniform and smooth a periodic modulation at the faster speeds with a volume pedal. It's easy enough for someone else to change the speed at the amp. I use it a lot for guitar - blues, surf, and so on - and I've had someone change the speed while playing. |

I've been into tremolo lately. Great for adding a little presence to background pads along with other things.

i use it quite often with my 66 deluxe reverb. also have the strymon flint that has reverb and tremolo that i use with a different amp. great pedal.
