I thought this was just too cool not to share. This is at The Amigo's Vintage Guitar Show in Costa Mesa, CA. It was purchased at Barney Kessel's estate sale. All of the magazines in the photo have Barney's home address on the mailing labels too. Seller said that Barney did the modifications on it, and used it for recording sessions.
The seller told me it was time to let it go.

Very cool. Barney Kessel was always one of my favorites. He did some great records with Oscar Peterson and Niels Henning Orsted Pederson, among so many others. I'd like to hear what he did with lap steel!

That is pretty cool. I know quite a few heavy guitarists who are well known but no one knows they own or play steel. It doesn't surprise me that an Oklahoma man like Barney would know a bit about it. Not at all.

Wow. Hopefully recordings of him playing steel turn up. I'd love to hear what he sounded like.

Like a lot of players in the LA studios, Barney had a Tele and likely a number of instruments to use on sessions when something unusual came up. I expect he played it in the most rudimentary manner or perhaps, like Tommy Tedesco, tuned every instrument like a Spanish guitar. He was devoted to the guitar and spent several hours a day in practice.
