I have had a problem with the settings on the 400.
I think that the amp is ok, but I just get to settings and tone on. I use my D10 Rittenberry most of the time and I use the Walker set-up; it's as good as it gets.
My SD10 Rittenberry has the tone, and I use the DD6 delay, but he tone on the 400 just don't have it.
If you have a setting that you use, send me some, I am interested to see the difference.
Maybe the amp needs looking at...........

Let's start from the other end. What settings do you use currently? Including the volumes, if you would.

Also, what "vintage" is the NV400? Is it one of the original models with a 1502-4 speaker or a later model with a 1501-4 speaker with or without the tone mod?

The "basic" settings I've used on every Peavey steel amp with the Parametric EQ (which includes the NV400) are listed below. The settings will vary slightly depending on how new the strings are and the location. This does not apply to the NV400 with the 1501-4 speaker and without the tone mod.

I've used these settings with an Emmons PP with stock single coil pickups and with my Franklin with Lawrence pickups.

Bass +9
Mid-2
Shift 800Hz
High and Presence 0

Try This;

Bass -10
Mid +2
Shift - All The Way To The Left (Off)
Treble -10
Presence +8

I use this on my 1972 Emmons Push-Pull.

How can you tell if you have the 1502 or the 1501?

The speaker will have a sticker on the side of the magnet that will state whether it's a 1501 or 1502.

Tommy
I have 3 NV-400's They all have 1501-4 BW's this works best for me.
I am running a D-10 Emmons L-II with 108-n pick ups on both necks. I am using a Standard Emmons Vol. Pedal.

Low +6
Mid -6
Shift 12 o'clock - 1 o'clock
High +6
Pres +3
Pre Gain 5 (with control pushed in)
Post Gain 5

Hope this helps some. I would use this as a starting point.
I have found that all of the amps. may sound a little different so you may want to play around with them.
I also have 2 Session 500's I really love the way they sound better than the 400's. But the 500's stay in the clubs I play at on the weekends.

Harry...The easiest way to tell a 1502 and 1501 B/W is look at it from the front. The 1502 has a "ribbed" speaker cone. The 1501 is plain. The 1502 was actually designed as a Bass speaker. Some prefer the 1502...I like them both Smile

From Peavey, this has always been a good place to start for me, then tweak it for the place I'm playing.
