Here’s a lovely amp, built by Colton Wheeler of X23 Amplification out of Waco, Texas. It’s a clone of an early-mid ‘50s Fender 5C3 Deluxe, which was the precursor to the more famous 5E3 Deluxe of the late 1950s.
Like an authentic Fender 5C3, this amp utilizes octal (6SL7 or 6SN7) preamp tubes for a fatter, less compressed or raucous tone. It's not as ratty as the 5E3, but make no mistake.. This amp is a HOSS and still gets that nasty tweed meltdown if you want it.
Amp has minor wear to the tolex but nothing major. Expect some imperfections here and there, but the price reflects the cosmetic condition. Overall, the amp is in very good to excellent condition, and is in perfect working condition.
Features of the amp are:
- Sozo Blue coupling capacitors
- F&T filter caps
- 1/2w carbon comp resistors
- Added choke for additional power filtering
- ClassicTone Power and Output Transformers
- Custom Mojotone pine cabinet, covered in 2-tone tolex
- Custom chassis finished in surf green enamel
- WGS G12C 12” ceramic speaker
- Leather handle and rubber feet
- Built in L-Pad attenuator to tame volume (can be bypassed)
NOTE: The treble switch on the L-Pad is not connected, and is not needed for the attenuator to function.
The Bird Dog weighs just under 30 lbs.
Also included are (2) NOS RCA 6V6GT power tubes, (1) NOS RCA 6SL7 preamp tube for the V1 position (far right, looking from the rear), (1) current production Sovtek 6SL7 preamp tube for the V2 position (to the left of V1), and (1) NOS 5Y3 rectifier tube (far left, looking from the rear). Rubber tube dampers (the two orange rings around the preamp tubes) are for reducing or eliminating tube rattle caused by speaker vibration in combo amps such as this. A bonus NOS RCA 6SN7 preamp tube for V1 and a backup NOS Sylvania 6SL7 preamp tube are also included. All tubes come with individual tube boxes, and all tubes will be put into a larger box and stored in the back of the amp for transport.
Price of the amp is $950 shipped. Payment via PayPal Friends and Family or a USPS money order would be greatly appreciated.
Now for some pictures…
