GeorgeBoards is currently making some new Lap Steel Guitar Kits for DIY.
This unique opportunity is for the creative and is actually a nice start for a super steel guitar.

This morning while setting up the CNC machine -
some how the part of the software that makes all of the router cuts (Path's) lay on the board exactly where you want them to go...

All well so far ... The machine did line everything up - except off of the center of the plank, still not a flub yet.

The way I make these I use a shorter length mill bit for the 1st one inch of depth on the outside profile.
Then a longer mill bit to finish to depth of that profile.

The final profile did not line up and we caught it as it put a small dot we will show in the photos.
That is where we stopped. Story time is over - Ha.

You have to use a pattern bit to finish cutting out the perimeter about 3/4 of an inch more deep.

The Head Pocket is 3/4 deep and nicely cut - use full sized tuner gears.

The Pickup Pocket is .055 deep to fit a 3.5 Alumitone Tone Bar with any 1/2 tall nut and bridge.
The pocket is 3.75 X 1.75 and will fit many other off the shelf pickups with using a pick guard or what ever you create.
The Control pocket is 1 inch deep and set up for a long panel jack out the tail and full sized pots.

Close up of the little dot, easy fill to fix.

Here is where the out side perimeter cut went beyond the edge of the wood.
By 1/16th, My Idea is to clean up that rough stuff , and apply a 1/8 veneer of wood along that side.

This photo shows the length , 25 and the center of the pickup will be 2 inches .
There is over 2.5 inches open space behind the 25 scale line to add benders if that is your thing.

George....

Still loving my two "kit" S6's with Steeltronics. I'm not handy at all, but if you ever do an equivalent finished (or mostly finished) S8, I'm in!

Thanks, bud!

Like this one?

We figured out the glitch and made this perfect one right after taking the project off of the mill.

I will be making fretboards in 25 and already have the control covers long jacks etc.

If you like to stick with the SteelTronics , I have this same model with the B8 for GeorgeBoards™ pocket and can make it next Tuesday..
