Do any of you using soft cases tote the guitar, legs and pedal board on you back like a regular back pack?

I tried it at home and just did not feel steady enough. Too top-heavy.

Hi Marty,
For local gigs, I use these & are easy to handle. Body goes into SKB (I added inside protection), it has recessed wheels & 2 handles, & Hercules bag for legs, rods & pedalboard. The wheels in the bag photo are from the SKB case. If I had to go on the road, I'd use 2 SKB's or the original case. Just an idea for ya!

Russ Pahl has a unique way of carrying his around. He discussed it in the ShowPro room one year at the Dallas show. He had a bag that the body fit in , it had a shoulder strap best I remember, and he only removed 2 legs. I think this method was mainly for transporting from car to studio. Pretty cool 😎

Please keep the info coming. I’m considering trying the backpack thing because I could possibly make one trip from the vehicle to the stage….even if I had to customize the straps.

Either that or I might plug directly to the board and avoid the amp. Concerned I’d cross paths with an inexperienced sound crew.

I agree with Lee. The guitar body has to be steady to assemble. I tried a soft case but I had to put it on the floor for the legs and pedal bar etc. Whereas, with a hard case, it is stable on my seat. If I had hours to set up, or green rooms larger than a toilet stall, that may have been different.

A light molded case, And make a back pack the case would fit in would give you stiffness and foam padding and a smooth surface for your back contact. If the changer end is heavier put it down in the pack. Have the shoulder straps arranged so the top of the pack would come to the base of your neck.

Guitar on your back, Amp. in 1 hand, Seat in other hand.
Have to eat your Wheaties every morning.

Helped my friend build a similar back pack for a Survey Insturement for carry in rough country.

Another option is to ditch the case:

No tear down no setup a good padded cover and an suv your set.

Nobody would do that with an expensive steel. How hard is it to break it down and put it in a case?

I got to thinking about this post again. The U.S. Army Alice pack uses a set of replaceable shoulder straps. The straps have strap and buckle attachment at top. And a simple loop attachment at bottom of strap. I have modified a couple sets of these straps to use when carrying some odd shaped equipment. They are easy to adjust even under load.

These straps may do what you want. Attached to a guitar case with about a 3/4" closed cell foam pad on bottom of case. Would allow for comfortable carrying of guitar. And set level on the floor for guitar setup and tear down in case.

I have a couple sets around here that I have modified. Just have to find them.
