Topic: Quilter 202 as power amp? |

Can the 202 function as a power amp only? For example, take output from a tube preamp into the effects return, and put a dummy plug in the effects send? That's what the owner's manual seems to be saying. And, will the internal reverb still work when hooked up that way?
I know the Quilter has good tube-like tone on its own, just wondering about another possible use. |

I would connect the output of the preamp to the regular guitar input. Set the preamp to a low level so you don't overload the input.
Set the Voice to FRFR, which is for modeling amps and the tube preamp sort of qualifies for that.
Set the EQ flat.
This will allow using the internal reverb (I don't like it and use a reverb pedal). |

I've used my Tone Block 200 using the method Jack posted. There's only limited EQ and no reverb on a Tone Block 200, but with a tube preamp front end, it works fine for me.

I'm using the same method as Jack and David (Hi Dave!) with a V8 in front of the 202 and I sure love it. Lightweight and tone as sweet as can be.

| I did a test of the effects loop method (per owners manual), using my Evans preamp output. Seems to work fine. And the reverb, which I do like on the 202, is still active. For what it's worth. |

| I have used Quilter 101 and 101R amps for a straight power amp -- electric and acoustic guitar preamps, and for PA monitors. Bypassing the Quilter preamp altogether, connecting the other preamp output to the EXF loop return. It will also work the other way, as described above. |

Although it works like you want, it was designed to work like I outlined. |

| I've been using a V8 into the regular input on a Quilter 101 for about 5 years. I thought it just sounded better this way than using the effects return. I had to play around with gain stages on both, but once it's set right it sounds great to me. I'm using the Full Q setting. |

Have you tried your steel straight to the Tone Block 202?
With some fine adjustment I got the tone and sound I had been searching for. Seat got a lot lighter. |
