I know this opens a can of worms. Here are two speaker examples. Same amp two different speakers at the same volume setting. Same licks.
Nashville 112 amp
Which is more pleasing.

Both were good. 1st was softer, 2nd a bit brighter and maybe more defined. |

Don't know where this is going, but I'll play.
#1 is the sweetest with the most body. That's my choice. |

As already pointed out, the first one is a bit more mellow, with a more pronounced midrange. Second one cuts through more. If they're really the same clips played through the same amp set the same, then clearly the efficiency of the second is also higher. I could see either being more or less useful, depending on the situation. But I'd probably want more efficient, lively-sounding speaker in a live band situation. |

The first clip sounds fuller, while the second has more highs and high mids. "Best" is nothing more than an opinion. However, I think that with a few amp tone adjustments made, that you (or anyone else) would have a real problem telling them apart in a band situation.
And to be honest, the idea of trying two different "anythings" with exactly the same amp settings and making a judgement is rather counterintuitive to me. It's sorta like getting into two different cars and judging their driving positions without adjusting the seats or steering wheels. |

I would describe SP 2 as being more open with a flatter frequency response. Blank canvas. SP 1 sounds like it was more tailored to modern pedal steel preferences with a mid range sweet spot. |

Ron,
Is there some βroomβ available within the tone controls to fatten up the tone with the Telonics speaker installed? Iβm experimenting thru you and could make a decision relatively quick.
I might swap my NV112 for a NV400 with a Telonics speaker to gain power and not kill my back. _________________ RETIRED

I changed speakers once and thought the new one sounded muddy, but after readjusting the tone controls on my amp it became the sweetest sounding speaker I ever owned. You have to consider the whole system as your instrument. _________________ -πππ- (admin) - Robert P. Lee - Recordings - Breathe - D6th - Video |

I'm a big fan and user of BW 12's, so no surprise that it appealed to me more.

Marty, yes I could adjust the tone of the Telonics, but didn't. I just wanted to see how each sounded without changing the knobs. Of course we know we can tweak it to change to what we like.
I also have a Quilter TT12 that i use on gigs a lot. It is so light and still powerful. Sometimes I feel its to middi or harsh sounding. I may plug my Black Window into that and see. It's such an easy gigging amp with it's size, lite weight and power. |

Different speakers will have different tonal response as well all know. I personally like the 1st example and agree that it is smoother. I don't like the west coast ice pick bright sound. I like a fat smooth tone, and others do not. It's all personal preference. The endless rabbit hole of TONE.: \ once you find your tone, all these other amps, speakers, preamps won't matter. Find what you like and stick with it. Remember that your tone is also in your bar and picks. Equipment is only part of our tone IMHO. Happy Easter yall. ![Smile](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |
