It's kind of embarrassing how surprised I am when I make a major change to my steel and everything actually works correctly, but I am very excited about how well my added staggered LKL worked out. In addition, I dropped the NOS changer in. The old Super Pro dialed right back in and I could even imagine it is playing more smoothly and accurately than before, which could just be in comparison to my Carter that I have been playing all week while the Sho Bud was on the bench, or it could be a legitimate improvement with the new changer.

The new, "outside" LKL takes on the old E-F change of the original LKL, which now has been moved "inside" and handles the first and second string raise (D#-E, F#-G#). I had already added this configuration to my Carter, so I got to road test it to some degree. Of course it lines up and feels a little different on the Sho Bud, but is close enough that it won't be disorienting going from one axe to the other.

It was extremely tight getting all the cross shafts an stops in, but it fit somehow. There are one or two unconventional mountings, but they work, so who's counting? A thousand thanks to Michael Yahl for supplying the necessary parts, as well as to the Ebay NOS parts seller, who took a while to get the straight knee lever to me, but it was the right part to complete the job.

Wow, that's a busy undercarriage. Glad it worked out.

Hi may a novice jump in and ask a question (I ordered a G2 at the Jamboree and need to figure out what I want underneath).

Is a "staggered" lever mean one of two that one knee operates in the same direction, by moving in or out, or does that word mean something else about how the pedal operates? Thanks

Hi John, welcome to the club! Yes, a "staggered" lever is one that moves in the same direction as one that is already there. In my case,I added yet another knee lever for my left knee moving left when I am on the E9 (front) neck. One (1) is closer to the middle of the guitar (from front to back) the other (2) is slightly further left and towards the back apron of the guitar. To operate the first one, I have to lean in slightly for my knee to hit the lever. For the second, I have to pull back slightly to miss that first lever and hit the second.

Thank you Dan,

Yes the other day I visited a superb player who lives by me (Gary Gimble) and he showed me his copedant. He's got that staggered left and I tried it out. It's new to me and awkward but I will order one. So many choices and decisions to be made!
