My Mach 3 gets onstage next week for the first time. I am quite confident that I will be happy. I sure am happy with it at home. After a couple of very satisfied years of gigging with my 23 lb. MicroPro Mach 2, the last thing I expected was to find something that sounded better AND was even lighter.

That's some really interesting stuff that I need to investigate, Doug. I have Ch 2 dedicated to overdriven playing and that's the only context in which I've worked with the Plexi, Dumble & Vox voices and currently I've settled on Tweed (57). Twin (65) has been my clean voice. Time to play with some knobs and listen to these voices, not overdriven.

my friend the late great tommy dodd used to do that. if the gig was such that he had good access to the stage or studio, he just laid the steel down in the back of his van fully assembled.

I’ve gotten great results from my Quilter Aviator with 8” speaker. Truly! Mostly I use my Toneblock 202 with a compact VHT cab loaded with the TT12. I’m a Quilter freak, tho(I have 5 various combos&heads) so MUST look into this new one.
My EXCEL or Justice S-10 Jr could be easily transported in my RAV 4 by your blasphemous method so I’m giving it a try soon.
We have at least one stellar role model to follow in this “no assembly required” method!

How would you compare the tone between the Mach 3 and the 202?

Just this weekend I picked up a Quilter Avionics with 8" speaker. Thought it might not have the tone for psg I was looking for, BUT, it does. It is a lot lighter than my Peavy Bandit so I will probably use it for small venues, if I ever learn to play the songs these guys do at our Jams.
Yup so far a good amp.

The Mach 3 amp from Quilter is the real deal. It’s sound is warm and tube like with crystal clear sound. I play both steel and keyboards through the little amp and they both sound great.
I agree with Doug, this is my go to amp.

Hi Doug:

What position do you leave the cab simulator in? It says Bright, Normal and FrFr.

I assume the reverb works on both channels, but is the reverb independently adjustable for each channel? This amp is looking like a good choice for those of us who double, but for me this is an important question.

No. There is only one set of reverb & trem controls.

Thank you Doug. I just measured one of my Stereo steel cabs with a JBL-K30 and it's 18 inches across and the Quilter Mach 3 head is 17 inches in length and less than 6 inches in depth so it would fit on the SS cab. I also have several 1-12 cabs so the head is a good option and only weighs 6 pounds.

I have tha Quilter Micro combo with an 8 inch speaker and I have used it with guitar and steel with good results.

Doug, I'd be interested in hearing your take on the 3 against each other. I have the TB 202 and love it, but want a little more, clean headroom, eq control, and tremolo would be great as well. I use it for steel, guitar, and bass. I have a lead on a Steelaire rack mount I am considering buying, but maybe I should spend a little extra for the Mach 3...

Hi Doug:

I have the Quilter Mach 3 head and have a Stereo Steel 15" cab with the TT-15 inch Neo speaker. I must say this is the lightest and best sounding setup I have used. Still kicking and playing a few gigs on occasion. Smile

Doug,
Have you played the Mach3 through a 15 inch speaker/cabinet? I am doing double duty and I am really interested in this head and adding a lightweight 15 inch cab to it vs. the 12 inch combo, as I just don't think I will get what I want out of a 12.
