Billy Hew Len with Hal Smith, 1980 or '81

About 13 years ago, I co-produced an audio DVD with Chuck Wilson that collected Hal Smith's 1980s field recordings of performances, jams and teaching featuring Billy Hew Len. Hal very generously made these available as a fund raiser for the HSGA. The original discs are long sold-out so, a few years ago, I put all the content up for free download on archive.org. Chuck spent a lot of time cleaning up the audio from the original cassette tape sources.

Think about how Billy had to use his entire arm and shoulder to accomplish what most of us do with fingers and wrist-only and how great he sounded. His bravery and determination is still inspiring.
