A friend bought a steel with Minitones stamped on the pickup cover. Anyone heard of anything like this? Thanks!

No. Do you have any pictures of the guitar to share?

I do not recognize the name, or the instrument, but someone here most likely will know. I will go out on a limb and suggest it was likely not a product manufactured in North America. Resembles early postwar Japanese electrics.

With the strings attaching to a plate like they do on that one, be sure to replace the missing screws, and torque 'em down as tight as you dare to achieve the best sound and sustain.
