Are there any photos or existing footage of Curly playing his Fender 1000? Was is a short scale or long scale?
Thanks

I would also like to see a photo of Chalker and his Fender1000. Of course - the tone he got on the " Travis" LP is one the iconic steel sounds ever. I've never seen a photo of CC and his Fender but they must exist somewhere - if just taken by fan. |

Here's the only "Travis" cut I could find on YouTube. Besides being C-6th 101 it's also a great LP just for listening entertainment. Remember it's a D-8 Fender 1000.

I think there are a few other Merle Travis cuts with Chalker on the Merle Travis Johnny Bond album "Great Songs Of The Delmore Brothers". I think there's more than one steel player on that record, but here are the cuts I think have Chalker playing. All are on YouTube.
Blue Railroad Train
Blues Stay Away From Me
Gonna Lay Down My Old Guitar
Brown's Ferry Blues
Weary Lonesome Blues
Field Hand Man (only a little steel, maybe Chalker?)
There was also a Mele Travis single with Chalker, "A World Full Of Roses". It's backed with "The Super Highway", but I've never heard that and don't know if Chalker is on it. |

Thanks for posting Greg. This album never gets old. My favorite Chalker solo on here is on Divorce Me C.O.D. I love his entrance chord. _________________ LeGrande II, Nash. 112, Fender Twin Tone Master, Session 400, Harlow Dobro, R.Q.Jones Dobro |

That'd be the "Big Hits On Big Steel" album.
Though a Sho~Bud appears on the album
jacket, the tracks were played on a
Fender pedal steel guitar.

Guessing that his 1000 must have been a long scale. The short scale came out in the early 60s, by which time I believe Chalker had moved on to a more modern 10 string guitar. |

In the 1960s Curly Played A Fender 2000 PSG.
Big Hits On Big Steel was recorded on his Fender 2000 guitar. The album cover photo for Big Hits On Big Steel was photographed after he had switched to A Sho-Bud guitar.

Curly played a long-scale Fender 1000 on most of the Travis stuff, including all the songs listed in Greg Cutshaw's post. The Fender 2000 (D10 guitar) wasn't released until April of 1964, so anything you hear from the early '60s with Curly was most likely done on his 1000.
