What is the best recommended method for cleaning input jacks on amplifiers and volume pedals? How often? Any common mistakes to try and avoid? What sort of brushes and cleaning solutions are the most common?
Thanks. _________________ Derby SD-10 5x6; GFI S-10 5x5; GFI S-10 5x5; Zum D-10 8x7; Zum D-10 9x9; Fender 400; Fender Rumble 200; Nashville 400; Telonics TCA-500. |

I recommend using 'Deoxit' cleaner and LUBE. Spray onto a 1/4" jack and insert and reinsert it three or four times. Sometimes follow up the procedure by inserting a small wire brush and rotating it gently. |

I second David's advice.
If you need to go the next step inside an amp, find a post that Ken Fox posted a few years back on how to service old Peavey amps that need both cleaning and re-tensioning the switching jacks. I've lost count of the Peavey amps I have brought back to life following Ken's procedure. |

Deoxit all the way for any contact cleaning needs. Pots, jacks, etc.
A little goes a long way. _________________ Rejoice in the Lord, O ye righteous; praise is meet for the upright. Give praise to the Lord with the harp, chant unto Him with the ten-stringed psaltery. The Lord loveth mercy and judgement; the earth is full of the mercy of the Lord.

The Deoxit F5 or D5 are very good, but ridiculously expensive, so I reserve them for volume controls and other pots. For switches, relays, and jacks, I use CRC 2-26. It works just as well, and it's less than half the price. One large spray can will last you for years! |

For input jacks, keep in mind that with very old or high-use jacks, the plating on the contacts might get rubbed off, and then they cannot be deoxed or cleaned, they have to be replaced. _________________ Guacamole Mafia - acoustic harmony duo
