My old friend Buck Evans has passed. Buck played bass in Curly Chalker's trio for many years as well as with Ernest Tubb, Jim Ed Brown, Charlie Louvin and others. Rest well my friend. _________________ Johnny "Dumplin" Cox

So sad to hear this. Buck and I were band mates back in 1967 when we both worked for Claude Gray. We had some good times.
Buck is on the far right and I'm standing next to him.
Rest in peace my friend. We'll meet again. |

I played several jobs in the Houston area when he was with Earl Epps band in the mid 80's, and last time we played 3 gigs together in Feb 2019 at Buck Sloan's Buckshot Opry in East Houston. He was in bad health , stood next to me and played great bass and could still sing great songs, just like he was still with ET.
I will miss him.

I played with Buck on that crazy tour with Jimmy Carter during the primaries in North Carolina. Buck was the leader of the band. I'm not sure what stories are appropriate here so I'll just leave it at that. |
