Just uploaded to YouTube. It's based on The Ventures version with a few licks added for steel guitar.

I did something a little unusual here. After trying several tunings and not being able to get the sound of the original recording, I decided to tune the steel like a standard guitar... and there it was! Surf on.

Back in the sixties I was in a rock &roll band. The lead guitar player learned that heavily requested song. Never thought a steel could. Nice job. Rachel Laundry has me booked on July 10th at Uxbridge, Mass. I think you`re on that gig.

Thanks Ron and Manny! Yes Manny, I'll see you on July 10th. I'm looking forward to that. Hopefully the virus will be under control by then.

Thanks Bob. It feels like a hybrid guitar/steel performance! ...tuned like a guitar, played with a flat pick, and the Fender Deluxe 8 is about as close to a Tele/Strat as a steel can get. It's a lot of fun. Thanks for checking it out.

I spied that flatpick action. How cool that it works on regular guitar tuning. What a great sound and arrangement Doug. It's wonderful that you revived this classic guitar tune.

Thanks Larry, This is one one the songs I and so many others learned to play on guitar in our youth. Great memories.

You're right Doug. My bro in law had a cheapo electric and the play along with the ventures lp. We all had to learn at least some part of that song!!

Very cool and well played, Doug! Took me right back to the 60s when I had a rock band, "The Mustangs" and played that tune for high school dances.

Thanks Ray and Larry! I’m glad the song brings back memories for so many of us who grew up hearing and playing surf guitar. AM radio was king and instrumental hits were heard every day, blasting out of little transistor radios!
