| Is anyone still using an Alexis Quadraverb effects rack. I got one back in the mid 80s and have always been blown away by the sound of the delay and the reverb, (especially program 12). BUT...I have also always had problems with noise, (hiss). I would go in the studio and the engineer would glare at me and start complaining. I have tweeked settings through the years and the noise seems to get worse. This week, I reset everything to the default settings, set the input all the way up, the output up jut enough to get all the green lights to show without any clipping (red) and the noise is down. I had always set both to around 12 o`clock. Is this the best way to set this unit? |

The Input pot is like a passive volume pedal, it can only cut the level, not amplify it. It's main purpose is to prevent the Quadraverb from clipping a hot signal coming in. So if you don't have Input turned up as high as possible without clipping, you're starting with a low level that's closer to the noise floor of the unit. The higher the input level, the more headroom you have above that noise floor, and the less hiss you'll hear at the output. That's why Alesis recommended those settings.

I've been real happy with my Quadraverb too.Input is at 2:00, output all the way up, and that signal goes into an Alesis 3630 limiter, then to the VP, then the amp (usually a Milkman Half & Half).
A little noisy, so I first tried a ground lift, which worked, but somebody here warned me about shock hazard, and I got an ART DTI. |
