I read a few posts about "stands for lap-steels"; can't locate the post now, but just wanted to show it CAN be done quite cheaply. I bought a budget keyboard stand and made a plywood-table to sit on top, with aluminium angle to hold the lap-steel in place & some crude clamps underneath to stop the table sliding around on the keyboard stand. Feels pretty sturdy & gigable .. but the best thing is, I can leave the lap-steel out all the time (instead of sitting in its case) and do some playing!
(PS that's the steel I made .. I'm enjoying playing it!)

Hey Chris,
Nice work on the stand. Your build on the lap steel is a beauty! I was wondering what is the wood you used and what is the rotary switch below the bridge? Thanks for sharing
your work.

Hi Steven; the wood is a piece of ash given me by my cabinet-maker brother-in-law. The rotary switch below the bridge is a 1meg tone pot; location inspired by the National New Yorker model. The 1meg gives it that "boo-wah" sound!!

(PS just found your website - love the music. What mandolin does he play? My main instrument is the mandolin)
