Does anybody have moons setup when he played with Waylon? I want my next guitar setup exactly like his. If anyone has his setup please let me know. Thanks happy thanksgiving from Slim and Kay

That has an extraordinary neat logic to it and must have been incredibly light to play on.

| Ralph routinely used both feet on the pedals so some adjustment in your playing style and volume pedal technique may be necessary. |

Here is a pair of snapshots from the issue #5, May 1980 Steel Guitarist Magazine interview with Ralph Mooney by Bill Carter and James Sallis.
You see the five pedal 1980 Sho-Bud Mooney copedant and Mooney's remark that the non-E9/E6 neck has a Dobro G Major tuning. But I cannot tell you exactly what that means over ten strings.

Somebody such as Harry or David Jackson at Jackson Steel Guitars, or Bob at GFI, might know how the front neck was set up. Moon played Sho-Bud for many years, then switched to GFI's until he passed.

For a guy who really never used the front neck, it's amazing that he(or a roadie) lugged that heavy ShoBud around on tours for all those years. Even When Ralph played those GFIs, they were still D-10s.
Guess a guy gets used to some things. |

Though Moon was one of my favorite players, I would strongly advise that you don't do that! About 98% of everything Moon played can be done on the standard E9th setup, and what you'd be losing would be far more useful than anything you might gain by using his exact setup. |

| I use Moon's exact fender 8-string E9 copedant on my fender 1000, and I love it. I'm not sure what he used on the other neck before he moved to 10-strings. You can hear his use of the G (dobro) neck on Waylon's black rose and some versions of the Dukes of Hazzard theme song, among others. Unless you have the g#-g and e-f# (by itself) changes on your guitar, you're missing out on a lot of Moon's sound. |
