Hey all...
Great to see all the Alkire info on these pages, but I see very little on the Alkire-branded amps...
I just played one of these, and am thinking of picking it up...
800 bucks...
Sounds fabulous, but not for clean stuff...
Really quiet when dimed, which is one reason I thought it might make a great recording amp...
Anyone?
Thanks!

Alkire never made any amps, though they were known for putting their guitar nameplates on Valco amps and selling them. Of course, that means there's no real way to tell if it's genuine! Not a big deal, however, an amp's an amp.
I suspect the tubes or coupling caps are weak, and that's causing the distorting. But keep in mind that those old speakers don't put out a lot of volume, anyway. However, $800 is probably still a pretty decent price for one in that condition. |

Thanks Donny...
The noted distortion in this case is a *good* thing...very lovely breakup...
The amp is basically a Valco 51...

Wow, after several hours of searching around yesterday, that's the first pic I've seen of the actual amp I'm interested in....thanks for posting!
Guess it might be kinda rare?
Maybe I should go grab it maƱana...
Thanks all...!
