For the very few here who might be interested, here's the video of my quintet's performance at Jazzfest Berlin last week.
There are no Ray Price shuffles, Buddy Emmons tunes, or country shuffles, however this is, as far as I know, the first performance ever of a pedal steel-led ensemble headlining at a major jazz festival. It may be a while, but I believe that there will be many more in the future, perhaps led by European steel players.
It's a very well-produced video. Our performance begins at 1:20 (one hour twenty minutes)

Michael Formanek (double bass)
Mary Halvorson (guitar)
Eddy Kwon (violin)
Ryan Sawyer (drums)
Me (electric tomato slicer)
I hope you enjoy the music. _________________ www.susanalcorn.net

That was a wonderful performance Susan! It's great seeing you and a handful of other innovative pedal steel guitar players continue to push the envelope by taking the instrument places it hasn't been before. |

Well done Susan, and it's wonderful that you are taking pedal steel to new audiences. Great job, and very good right hand technique as usual. _________________ Show Pro D10 - amber (8+6), MSA D10 Legend XL Signature - redburst (9+6), Sho-Bud Pro 111 Custom (8+6), Emmons black Push-Pull D10 (8+5), Zum D10 (8x8), Hudson pedal resonator. Good on you Susan. I appreciate what you are doing with the pedal steel. To be included in a major jazz gathering is indeed an accomplishment.
Nice playing and great tone. |
