Hey Folks,
Was popping into my local guitar shop and saw two amps I was not familiar with.
The first is a Peavey Classic VTX. Shop owner says it was probably a 2x12 originally but had been modded into a 1x15.
The other is a Fender Stage 160. Not the DSP model.
Didn't bother to plug in either as my guitarist buddy was distracted elsewhere.
I don't need an amp really, but I was wondering if you all thought either of these was worth going back for a second look for steel? I don't really play 6 string, so that doesn't come into it.
The 160 was $175. The Classic was un-priced. _________________ Nickel and Steel. Sad Songs and Steel Guitar.

Thanks for that.
I think it was very similar in appearance. It was also Solid State Pre and Tube Power section.
I've already got a nice sounding Reno for the practice space so it sounds like the Classic VTX wouldn't offer any improvement over that. _________________ Nickel and Steel. Sad Songs and Steel Guitar.

I used to have a Peavey Classic 212, not sure it was a VTX. Got it in about 1975. It was my first guitar amp, in fact. It was okay for guitar, although I was never crazy about it, although part of it was my first electric guitar, a Gibson Marauder, which never sounded all that great. Many years later I got a Tele and that sounded pretty good, but by then I had better sounding amps, so I sold the Classic for $100.
I played my steel through it for a long time since it was my only amp at the time. But I wasn’t crazy about that either. Much later I got a Nashville 112 and that was an eye opener, much better! And more recently I got a Tonemaster Twin Reverb, which I like better even than the NV. In fact I think I’m going to let the NV go one of these days.
So I’d say don’t bother with the Classic for PS, but it will work sorta kinda.
