Just got a new (to me) steel from Mike Christensen here on the forum.
(Good guy to deal with!)

Still not sure what year this Magnatone was made, never seen a Troubadour that was MOTS before. I seem ro remember reading somewhere that they did a few like this in 1949-50...but I can't find the article online that mentioned that.
Anyway; it's a beautiful steel in great condition and a joy to play. |

| Nice job John. Made it sound just like its supposed to sound. If ya notice it has a different style serial number tag on it. I believe that style of fretboard and the two tone were only around a couple years. Enjoy John,and thanks again. Happy Trails Mike C. |

Nice job and a familiar arrangement I think, from Kumu Alan! I worked on that one over the summer I think. One of my favorites (my first Hawaiian album was Alfred Apaka's Hawaiian Favorites with Danny Stewart on steel, opening with this R Alex Anderson tune).

Thanks for the kind words.
Yes; Nic; this was indeed based on Alan Akaka's version! I've always loved this tune since I heard Dorthy Lamour sing it on a Old Time radio show recording.
I really like Alan Akaka's playing and am always trying to copy his stuff. |
